After getting that initial boost in year 3 he basically unlocked a sort of future seeing ability where if he has a strong intuition about something, it's 100% going to happen. How can they have relationships? I know that Hershel is with Mary but when Roy finds someone is it gonna be some kind of sister-wife situation, are they all going to live together, do they split the time with their partners? And then what do they think about when they're not out? Like when Roy is out is Hershel sleeping in there? Does it feel like he's trapped inside a body not being able to do anything? So many questions! They are basically conjoined twins to a much more extreme level. Okay first of all I've been thinking a lot about Hershel and Roy and the implications of their power. I loved every page! Now that it's over can we talk about a few things? !!!SPOILERS!!! So many satisfying fights, so many mysteries resolved, and so many great characters doing badass things. Just because the idea is there or gets written down, does not mean it is necessary. I have to go with the former, since other Hayes books have not been like this. It is either what comes from writing a novel on the internet or self-publishing. An editor was needed, and I'm not sure if one was used. This was a very unfortunate end to a great series. Vince's 'fear' was so overly discussed with no discernible growth in four years that I just found him annoying. The epilogue read like it came out of the disappointed reader of the Harry Potter epilogue in which not much info was given. It was almost like the author forgot to go back to it. The fighting, testing, and climax simply dragged, including two one-on-one fights that were neither original thoughts nor necessary. The book actually just started to irritate me. Characteristics of supers and people were repeated ad nauseam. The phrase 'That was the only warning he/she got before.' was used over and over. Two-thirds of this book should have been cut. While the plot and twists had so much potential, there was so much over-writing and repitition. I had been waiting excitedly for so long. The ending had something of an ' and they all lived happily ever after vibe', but with this type of story I would expect nothing less. Sometimes the best inspiring moments are when someone does the right thing just because it is the right thing. Their motivations were somewhat simplistic ( always trying to do the right thing), but that added to my enjoyment of this book. The characters ended up being much more complex when compared to the first book. While the powers were the most interesting part of the story to me, I was surprised at how attached I became to the 5 main characters: Alice, Mary, Nick, Vince, Hershel/Roy. Since this is the last book in the series, I feel confident I am not giving away spoilers when I also say that we finally get the backstory of Globe and Intra and how everything connects to Alice, her mother and her father. So not only is there the story line about trying to graduate, there is also the left over issues from the attack on the Lander campus from the previous year. As the title suggests, this is the last year of school, if they are able to graduate they will be true heroes. Overall this was a great ending to the series. I finished 3 more books since then and while the story is still fresh in my mind, my feeling are a little muted so I am expecting this to be a much shorter review. I usually write a review right after I finish a book because the story and my feelings for the book are fresh in my mind. I finished this audiobook during a 12 hour road trip last week and this is the first chance I have had to write a review. Much more action in this book compared to the other 3 though. Long-buried secrets have been unearthed old mysteries are finally unraveling and what lies at the center of it all has the potential to rock the realm of Heroes to its very foundation.Re-listened May 2019.
